Rough Grinding • Intermediate Grinding • Dry Fine Polishing
Abstract. This technical application note describes a three-stage finishing process for Mahjong tiles. The process combines two wet rotary barrel operations with a final dry polishing stage. The defined sequence uses 15 × 15 mm 240# cone plastic media for rough grinding, 10 mm porcelain balls for intermediate grinding, and bamboo media for final dry polishing.
1. Process Overview
The process is arranged as a controlled sequence in which each stage prepares the tile surface for the next operation. The first two stages are carried out in a WGP series wet rotary barrel machine. The final polishing stage is carried out in a JFH series dry rotary barrel machine.
| Stage | Process | Media | Machine | Time |
| 1 | Rough grinding | 15 × 15 mm 240# cone plastic media | WGP series wet rotary barrel machine | 12 h |
| 2 | Intermediate grinding | 10 mm porcelain balls | WGP series wet rotary barrel machine | 12 h |
| 3 | Fine polishing | Bamboo media | JFH series dry rotary barrel machine | Dry |

2. Stage 1 — Rough Grinding
Purpose. The first stage provides the main coarse cutting action and establishes the initial surface condition before the finer stages. The Mahjong tiles are processed with plastic abrasive media in a wet rotary barrel.
- Media: 15 × 15 mm cone plastic media, 240# grit
- Machine: WGP series wet rotary barrel machine
- Processing time: 12 hours
- Process mode: Wet barrel grinding
Process note. The 240# cone plastic media is the coarse grinding media in this process. After the 12-hour cycle, the tiles proceed directly to the intermediate grinding stage.
3. Stage 2 — Intermediate Grinding
Purpose. The second stage refines the surface produced during rough grinding. The plastic abrasive media is replaced with 10 mm porcelain balls while the process remains in the wet rotary barrel machine.
- Media: 10 mm porcelain balls
- Machine: WGP series wet rotary barrel machine
- Processing time: 12 hours
- Process mode: Wet rotary barrel finishing
Process note. This stage is the transition between coarse grinding and the final dry polishing operation. After the 12-hour porcelain-ball cycle, the tiles are transferred to the dry finishing machine.
4. Wet-Process Sequence
5. Stage 3 — Fine Polishing with Bamboo Media
Purpose. The third stage is a dry polishing operation. The Mahjong tiles are processed with bamboo media in a JFH series dry rotary barrel machine. This is the final finishing stage of the defined process.
- Media: Bamboo media
- Machine: JFH series dry rotary barrel machine
- Process mode: Dry polishing
- Position in sequence: Final finishing stage

Purpose. The third stage is a dry polishing operation. The Mahjong tiles are processed with bamboo media in a JFH series dry rotary barrel machine. This is the final finishing stage of the defined process.
Working condition. During this stage, the Mahjong tiles are surrounded by bamboo media inside the dry polishing barrel. Figure 3 shows the actual tile-and-media condition during polishing.

6. Finished Surface Appearance
After completing the rough-grinding, intermediate-grinding, and dry fine-polishing stages, the finished Mahjong tiles show the final surface appearance illustrated below.

7. Recommended Process Sequence
8. Conclusion
The complete finishing route uses two wet rotary-barrel stages followed by one dry polishing stage. The defined sequence is: 240# plastic cone media → 10 mm porcelain balls → bamboo media. This provides a clear production workflow from rough grinding to intermediate grinding and final dry polishing.
Process data in this document are based on the specified Mahjong polishing application and the supplied production photographs.
