Rotomatic Continuous Flow Through System

Rotomatic Continuous Flow Through System — high-productivity continuous vibratory finishing for aluminium die casting and similar parts

The Rotomatic is a continuous flow-through vibratory finishing system: parts enter one end of the machine, travel through the finishing bowl under controlled vibration and media action, and exit the other end — finished, separated from media and ready for the next process step — without the machine stopping. There is no batch cycle, no unloading pause and no re-loading downtime. The result is consistently higher throughput per shift than a batch vibratory machine of similar bowl volume, with lower labour cost because one operator can oversee the running line rather than manually managing batch loads.

The system is well suited to aluminium die casting parts with processing times around 15 minutes. A PLC control panel manages all functions; the extended separation deck, media recycling system, and optional magnetic parts separation, rinsing and noise suppression cabin allow the line to be configured for specific part types and downstream requirements.

  • Continuous parts feed — no batch stops, no unloading downtime
  • Low labour cost — one operator manages the running line
  • High consistency — every part receives the same finishing time and media exposure
  • PLC control panel — user-friendly, programmable, full system oversight
  • Extended separation deck — clean media/parts separation at discharge
  • Media recycling and transporting system — recirculates media automatically

How the Rotomatic continuous system works

Parts are loaded at the inlet end of the vibratory bowl via the parts loading and receiving system. The bowl geometry and vibration create a controlled spiral flow that moves parts from inlet to outlet at a consistent rate — the transit time through the bowl is the finishing time. Media and parts travel together; the extended separation deck at the outlet separates parts from media cleanly as the mix discharges. Media drops back into the recycling system for return to the bowl inlet.

StageWhat happens
1. LoadParts fed into the bowl inlet via the loading and receiving system
2. FinishParts travel through the bowl with media; deburring and polishing occur during transit (~15 min)
3. SeparateExtended separation deck separates finished parts from media at discharge
4. RecycleMedia recycling system returns media to the bowl inlet for continuous use
5. CollectFinished parts collected and moved to next process step; line continues without stopping

Who the Rotomatic is built for

High-volume aluminium die casting operations — die casting parts typically carry parting line flash, gate marks and surface roughness from the casting process. Deburring and polishing these in a continuous line at ~15 minutes per part cycle eliminates the throughput bottleneck of batch-mode finishing, where the machine must stop to unload and reload between cycles.

Production lines where consistent finishing quality across every part matters — because every part travels the same path through the bowl for the same time, the Rotomatic delivers more uniform finishing than batch machines where parts at different positions in the bowl receive different media exposure. High-consistency output reduces downstream inspection and rework.

Facilities reducing labour cost on finishing operations — the PLC control, automatic media recycling and parts loading and receiving system mean one operator can manage the running line rather than the two or three operators that batch finishing typically requires at the same throughput rate.

Rotomatic Continuous Flow Through System – FAQs

1. What is the difference between a continuous flow-through system and a batch vibratory machine?
A batch machine loads a fixed quantity of parts, runs for a set time, then stops to unload and reload before the next cycle. Each stop costs production time and requires operator labour. The Rotomatic runs without stopping: parts enter continuously from one end and exit continuously from the other. The finishing time is determined by the transit time through the bowl, which is controlled by the bowl geometry and vibration parameters. One operator oversees the running line rather than managing individual batch cycles.
2. What types of parts is the Rotomatic best suited for?
The Rotomatic is well suited to aluminium die casting parts with processing times around 15 minutes — a common requirement for deburring parting line flash and gate marks and achieving the surface finish needed before painting, coating or assembly. It also suits zinc die castings, sintered parts and other small-to-medium cast or machined components where consistent throughput finishing is the requirement.
3. Can the processing time be adjusted?
Yes. The transit time through the bowl — and therefore the finishing time — is controlled by the bowl geometry, vibration frequency and amplitude, all adjustable via the PLC. For parts requiring longer or shorter processing times than 15 minutes, the system can be configured accordingly.
4. How does the separation deck work?
The extended separation deck at the bowl outlet uses a screen with apertures sized to pass finishing media but retain parts. As the mix discharges from the bowl, media falls through the screen to the recycling system and parts travel across the screen to the collection point. Interchangeable separation panels of different sizes and shapes allow the system to be configured for different part and media combinations.
5. Is a rinsing stage included?
Parts rinsing and cleaning is available as an optional addition to the standard configuration. The rinsing unit is installed at the machine outlet and removes compound residue from parts before they move to the next process step. This is recommended for parts going directly to coating, plating or assembly without an intermediate cleaning stage.
6. Can the Rotomatic handle ferrous parts?
Yes. The optional magnetic parts separation unit handles ferrous parts that are similar in size to the finishing media — separating them from media at the discharge end where a sieve screen alone would not reliably distinguish parts from media by size. This option is relevant for small steel stampings, fasteners and similar ferrous parts.
7. What are the dimensions and installation requirements?
The Rotomatic is a configured system; dimensions depend on the bowl size and options selected for your application. Contact us with your throughput and part specifications for a system layout drawing and installation requirements document.
8. Do you provide export packing and documentation?
Yes. We handle standard export packing and shipping documentation for delivery to 60+ countries. Contact us to confirm lead time and freight options for your destination.
