Magnetic Separator

Magnetic separator designed for collecting ferrous parts that easy to be separated magnetically, especially for small size lightweight parts.

Magnetic separator is the ideal auxiliary equipment that works with bowl vibratory finishing machine.

Magnetic separator designed for collecting ferrous parts that easy to be separated magnetically, especially for small size lightweight parts. The electric controlling of the magnetic separator allows continuous separation.

Typically, all iron parts require de-magnetization. Therefore, inovatec separator equipped with the basic de-magnetization zone at the backside of the belt.

Magnetic Separator — continuous separation of ferrous parts from finishing media in mass finishing operations

The magnetic separator is the correct separation tool when the parts being finished are ferrous — steel stampings, iron castings, small fasteners, spring clips and similar magnetic materials — and the media is non-ferrous (ceramic, plastic, corn cob). A standard vibratory separator uses size difference to separate parts from media; a magnetic separator uses magnetic attraction instead, which makes it effective for parts that are the same size as the media, too small to sieve reliably, or too lightweight to travel correctly across a sieve screen.

The Inovatec magnetic separator uses an electric roller conveyor with continuous belt motion. The mixed load passes under the magnetic roller; ferrous parts are attracted and held to the belt; non-magnetic media falls clear. As the belt passes the magnetic field boundary, parts release and drop into the parts collection area. A de-magnetisation device on the back side of the belt removes residual magnetism from the parts before they discharge — a necessary step for most downstream processes.

  • Electric roller magnetic separation — continuous, reliable collection of ferrous parts
  • Works on parts the same size as media — separates where sieve screens cannot
  • Built-in de-magnetisation zone — removes residual magnetism before parts discharge
  • Variable belt speed control — adjust to part size and throughput requirement
  • 2-axis adjustment — position the separator to suit your machine discharge point
  • Magnetic power control — adjust field strength to match part weight

How the magnetic separator works

The mixed discharge from the finishing machine (ferrous parts + non-magnetic media) is fed onto the magnetic separator conveyor belt. The magnetic roller attracts and holds ferrous parts while non-magnetic media passes freely through. Parts discharge into a collection bin after passing the magnetic field boundary; the de-magnetisation zone on the back of the belt removes residual magnetism as parts release.

StepWhat happens
1. FeedMixed parts and media discharged from finishing machine onto the conveyor
2. AttractMagnetic roller attracts and holds ferrous parts to the belt; non-magnetic media falls clear
3. ReleaseParts pass magnetic field boundary, release from belt and drop into parts collection bin
4. De-magnetiseDe-magnetisation zone on the belt back side removes residual magnetism as parts discharge

Who the magnetic separator is built for

Operations finishing small ferrous parts with non-magnetic media — the magnetic separator is the correct tool when parts are steel, iron or other magnetic materials and media is ceramic, plastic or corn cob. It handles the separation cases that defeat a vibratory sieve: parts too small to be reliably retained by the sieve, parts the same size as the media, or lightweight parts that don’t travel correctly on a vibrating screen.

Facilities finishing parts with steel shot or steel pin media alongside ferrous parts — when both parts and media are ferrous, a magnetic separator does not distinguish between them and a vibratory separator by size is needed instead. Contact us to discuss the correct separator for your specific media and part combination.

Any line where downstream processes require de-magnetised parts — residual magnetism on ferrous parts causes problems in painting, plating, inspection with magnetic gauges, and assembly. The built-in de-magnetisation device on the MS separator removes this issue at the point of separation without adding a separate de-magnetising step.

Magnetic Separator – FAQs

1. What types of parts is the magnetic separator designed for?
The magnetic separator is designed for ferrous parts — steel, iron and other magnetically attracted materials. This includes steel stampings, screws, bolts, spring clips, fasteners, iron castings and similar components. The separator does not work on aluminium, brass, copper, stainless steel (non-magnetic grades) or plastic parts; use a vibratory separator for those materials.
2. Why is de-magnetisation necessary after finishing?
Ferrous parts that have been in contact with a magnetic field retain residual magnetism. This causes problems in downstream processes: residual magnetism attracts metal dust and chips in machining environments, interferes with plating and coating adhesion, gives false readings with magnetic measurement tools, and can cause parts to stick together in storage or assembly. The built-in TC-2 de-magnetisation device removes this without adding a separate process step.
3. Can it separate parts that are the same size as the finishing media?
Yes — this is one of the key advantages of magnetic separation over sieve-based separation. A vibratory separator works on size difference; when parts and media are the same size, the sieve cannot distinguish between them. The magnetic separator works on material property (magnetic vs non-magnetic), so size difference is irrelevant as long as the parts are ferrous and the media is non-magnetic.
4. What media types is it compatible with?
The separator works when the media is non-magnetic: ceramic tumbling media, plastic tumbling media, corn cob and walnut shell are all compatible. It does not separate ferrous parts from steel shot or steel pin media, since both are magnetic. For steel-shot finishing of ferrous parts, a different separation approach is needed — contact us to discuss your specific application.
5. How does the variable belt speed control work?
The belt speed determines how quickly the mixed load passes under the magnetic roller. Slower belt speeds give the magnetic field more contact time with each part — better for very small or lightweight parts where the attraction force needs more time to overcome gravity and inertia. Higher belt speeds suit heavier parts and higher-throughput requirements. The inverter allows stepless speed adjustment.
6. What is the 2-axis adjustment for?
The 2-axis adjustment allows the separator to be repositioned to align its feed point with the discharge outlet of your vibratory finishing machine. Different machines have different discharge heights and angles; the 2-axis adjustment accommodates these differences without requiring a fixed installation or custom mounting.
7. Is the magnetic separator compatible with all vibratory finishing machines?
The separator is designed to work alongside bowl vibratory finishing machines as standard. It can also be adapted for use with other mass finishing machines — trough machines, centrifugal disc machines — where the discharge can be directed onto the separator belt. Contact us with details of your finishing machine to confirm compatibility.
8. Do you provide export packing and documentation?
Yes. We handle standard export packing and shipping documentation for delivery to 60+ countries. Contact us to confirm lead time and freight options for your destination.
